The secrets of the Philosopher Stone has been kept hidden for the last 12,000 years.
The Philosopher Stone, Elixir of Life, Fountain of Youth, Ambrosia, Soma, Amrita, Nectar of Immortality,”What is it?”, Manna. These are different names for the Philosopher Stone.
For many centuries, the Philosopher Stone was the most sought-after goal in Western alchemy. The Philosopher Stone was the central symbol of the mystical terminology of alchemy. Efforts to discover the Philosopher Stone were known as the Magnum Opus.
Throughout history the secret of the Philosopher Stone has been used by a very few to extend their lives hundreds of years in perfect health, with access to unlimited wealth, among many other miraculous properties. Some kept the secret of the Philosopher Stone because they understood that the time was not right for the secret to be free for all people, but most kept the secret of the Philosopher Stone out of their own jealousy, ignorance, egotism and corruption.
The Philosopher Stone is known in two forms…
- The White Philosopher Stone is capable of healing most illnesses and turning base metals into Silver
- The Red Philosopher Stone is capable of healing all illnesses, restoring youth and turning all base metals to Gold
Seven Steps to make the Philosopher Stone
Complete and accurate instructions for making the Philosopher Stone don’t exist.
The Philosopher Stone is created by the alchemical method known as The Magnum Opus or The Great Work. Often expressed as a series of color changes or chemical processes, the instructions for creating the Philosopher Stone are varied. When expressed in colors, the work may pass through phases of nigredo, albedo, citrinitas, and rubedo. When the creation of the Philosopher Stone is expressed as a series of chemical processes it includes seven stages concluding in multiplication, and projection.
The first four steps in making the Philosopher Stone take place Below, in the realm of matter. The last three steps in making the Philosopher Stone take place Above, in the realm of mind and creative imagination. Combined, they make the magical & mystical Philosopher Stone.
Philosopher Stone Step #1 – CALCINATION
The Calcination process involves heating a substance in a crucible or over an open flame until it is reduced to ashes. In the Arcanum Experiment, Calcination is represented by sulfuric acid, which the alchemists made from a naturally occurring substance called Vitriol.
Philosopher Stone Step #2 – DISSOLUTION
Dissolution is the dissolving the ashes from Calcination in water. In the Arcanum Experiment, Dissolution is represented by iron oxide or rust, which illustrated the potentially corrosive powers of Water on even the hardest of metals. When processed, Vitriol breaks down into sulfuric acid and iron oxide, which are the first two arcana or secret ingredients.
Philosopher Stone Step #3 – SEPARATION
Separation is the isolation of the components of Dissolution by filtration and then discarding any unworthy material. In the Arcanum Experiment, Separation is represented by the compound sodium carbonate, which separates out of water and appears as white soda ash on dry lake beds.
Philosopher Stone Step #4 – CONJUNCTION
Conjunction is the recombination of the saved elements from Separation into a new substance. In the Arcanum Experiment, Conjunction is symbolized by a nitrate compound known as cubic-saltpeter or potassium nitrate, which the alchemists called Natron or simply Salt. Blue-colored Natron acid (aqua fortis) was made by mixing potassium nitrate with sulfuric acid and was used to separate silver from gold. The inert residue precipitated from the acid during the reaction like a child being born.
Philosopher Stone Step #5 – FERMENTATION
Fermentation is a two-stepped process that begins with the Putrefaction of the hermaphroditic “child” from the Conjunction resulting in its death and resurrection to a new level of being.
Philosopher Stone Step #6 – DISTILLATION
Distillation is the boiling and condensation of the fermented solution to increase its purity, such as takes place in the distilling of wine to make brandy. In the Arcanum Experiment, Distillation is represented by a compound known as Black Pulvis Solaris, which is made by mixing black antimony with purified sulfur.
Philosopher Stone Step #7 – COAGULATION
Coagulation is the precipitation or sublimation of the purified Ferment from Distillation. In the Arcanum Experiment, Coagulation is represented by a compound called Red Pulvis Solaris, which is a reddish-orange powder of pure sulfur mixed with the therapeutic mercury compound, red mercuric oxide. The name Pulvis Solaris means “Powder of the Sun” and the alchemists believed it could instantly perfect any substance to which it was added.
Is the Philosopher Stone Real or Legend?
The Philosopher Stone is to be found in the “Interior parts of the Earth”, according to the alchemical motto VITRIOL: “Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem”. The Rosicrucians claimed to have visited this place and obtained the precious Philosopher Stone and thus was born the secrecy and legends of the Rosicrucians.
Nicholas Flamel is the best known figure in history said to have successfully create the Philosopher Stone.
In many Hermetic and Alchemical texts, the Philosopher Stone is often represented as the Sun & Moon joined together on Earth, personified as Hermes, or a “Obourous” a Snake eating it’s own tail.
